Tula

Tula

Toltec culture:

Tula means “Place of the Reeds”

Located about 50 miles north of Mexico City.

“The Atlantes are truly some of the masterpieces of Totlec sculpture. The statues are each nearly 15 feet tall and were carved in four sections that were then tenoned together. Some remnants of paint still adhere to their surfaces. The Atlantes depict Toltec warriors who represent Quetzalcoatl in his manifestation as the planet Venus as the morning star. In this guise, the deity is called Tlahuizcalpantecuhtli; hence the name of the pyramid. It is sometimes called – more prosaically – Building B or the Pyramid of Quetzalcoatl.”  –  –  – Joyce Kelly
